Research Interests

My research interest is the hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. These disorders affer 5-10% of pregnancies throughout the world. Prophylactic interventions such as with aspirin or calcium supplements have been disappointing. Currently, the only therapy available is delivery, often at the expense of fetal maturity. Given that the intervention options are limited, we have turned our focus to risk factors that may be modified before or early in pregancy. Current studies are ongoing in the Nurses' Health Study II cohort towards these efforts.
