November 12, 1999 - Dr. Elliott Kieff, Director of the BWH Cancer Center, and Dr. Frank Speizer were featured in today's BWH Bulletin article on the inauguration of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC). The center includes the cancer centers and research teams from seven Harvard-affiliated institutions, including Brigham and Women's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and the Harvard School of Public Health.

October 1, 1999 - This month's Archives of Internal Medicine features Dr. Beverly Rockhill's findings from the Nurses' Health Study showing a 20% lower risk of breast cancer for women who exercised more than one hour per day.

September 1, 1999 - Dr. Michelle Holmes was lead author of a study published in the September issue of Cancer suggesting that a diet rich in proteins from poultry and dairy products, but not red meat, may lower the risk of women suffering from breast cancer by up to 35 percent.

September 1, 1999 - A study published by Dr. Alison Field in this month's issue of the American Journal of Epidemiology found that repeated cycles of weight gain and weight loss do not, as previously believed, raise the risk of high blood pressure in women. Being overweight, however, does increase that risk.

August 26, 1999 - The Nurses' Health Study was featured on this morning's broadcast of Good Morning America in conjuction with a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine showing that women who walk at a pace of 3 miles an hour for 3 hours a week can lower their risk of heart disease by as much as 40 percent. June 5, 1999 - Dr. Gerald Pier's progress in developing a PNSG-based vaccine for Staphylococcus aureus is featured in today's on-line issue of New Scientist.

March 11, 1999 - Dr. Michelle Holmes' study on the relationship between fat intake and breast cancer risk appears on the front page of today's Harvard University Gazette. The original report was published in the March 10 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

March 5, 1999 - Channing Laboratory research assistant Wendy Osterling is featured on the front page of today's BWH Bulletin.

February 5, 1999 - The Channing Laboratory's Dr. Robin Ross and Dr. Raina Fichorova, a reproductive immunologist in the Fearing Laboratory, were awarded one of three interdisciplinary seed grants by the Division of Women's Health, according to today's BWH Bulletin. Ross and Fichorova will study the interactions between bacteria and the host in the female genital tract.
