Research Interests My primary interests are the effects of dietary habits, particularly n-3 and trans fatty acids, on cardiovascular health and disease. As a cardiologist with training in epidemiology and nutrition, I use an integrated approach to formulating research hypotheses and the methods to address these questions. A translational approach also allows application of clinical experiences to research questions and of research results to patient care. To understand more fully the public health and cardiovascular impact of diet, I study effects on multiple cardiovascular outcomes, including coronary heart disease, sudden death, stroke, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation. I am also interested in potential intermediary phenotypes and risk factors, such as heart rate, inflammation, cardiac structure and function, and electrophysiology.
