A robust bioinformatics infrastructure is critical to analyzing gene-expression patterns, DNA sequencing and all other genome studies. The bioinformatics team has established an informatics foundation for HPCGG's high throughput efforts that includes a hardware infrastructure supported by a high-speed server, which is at the heart of the Center's new network operating system for all data processing and is the central repository for multiple databases. The bioinformatics team, at 65 Landsdowne St., has also developed software systems tailored to HPCGG's size and mission. Sequence data-processing is automated by informatics protocols that link the steps together. A Web-based system to automate laboratory workflow is under development. HPCGG is negotiating with major computer hardware and software companies to provide significant infrastructure and networking resources to support our expanding informatics needs. |
